Catherine Hibbits

A love of the fluidity of form inspires Catherine Hibbits to design and craft magnificent glass masterpieces that have helped her soar to success in the artistic world. For almost a decade, the glass artist has been pursuing her delicate craft while making a strong name for herself internationally.

Her family, originally from Nova Scotia, moved around Canada during her youth. However she returned to her home province and graduated from Acadia University and then studied at Sheridan College's school of crafts and design in Toronto.  She was a teaching assistant at Wanganui Polytechnic in Wanganui, New Zealand in 2000 and 2001. Catherine was privileged to have studied in workshops with Pino Signoretto, the Del L Torre Brothers, Laura Donifer and Susan Edgerly. She has since moved back to Canada and executed projects for clients small and very large, including Yabu Pushelberg and Bombay Sapphire. Her pieces can be seen in the Mirage Hotel Vegas, David Yurman Beverly Hills and various hotels in Miami. Catherine says her favorite subject matter is the human form.  "It is a subject matter so expressive and sensual, also capable of relaying a narrative to the viewer. I often juxtapose figurative studies with natural objects, another focal point for my work." Catherine recently took a few months to travel to Central America. Her main goal was to blow lava from an active volcano. "I think I hiked every volcano from Costa Rica to Guatemala."

Fluidity of form stirs Catherine's creative spirit. You can say Catherine Hibbits has molten glass coursing through her veins and she will go to the ends of the earth to prove it.
